trip in Italy (Milan) - Part 2
MY VISIT TO MILAN, ITALY
May 18-22, 2007
From Turin, I left for Milan on May 18. A confrere, Fr. Teodie Holgado CSsR was to join me there and our host would be Alex Magpayo and Yanie Robles, whose flat is very near the center of Milan.
The first site upon arriving at the main train terminal is the Grattacielo Pirelli or the Pirelli Skyscraper, a building that hosts the offices and the Committee of the Regione Lombardia built in l955-59. It rises to a height of 127 meters.
The front of the Stazione Centrale or the main train terminal in Milan, built between 1912 and 1931 designed by the architect Stacchini.
We went to the house blessing of Lino and Jo, relatives of Fr. Teods.
As with other gatherings with Pinoys, there was food to be shared as Lino had cooked kare-kare, apritada and even buko pie.
The front of Galleria, main shopping center at the heart of Milan. It is known as the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, the only example of a large-scale arcade in the whole of Europe.
By the side of the Galleria is the Duomo, or the main Basilica, commissioned in 1386 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti. With its 135 small steeples and 2,245 statues, it is the finest example of the gothic style in Italian architecture.
The front of Duomo.
In front of the Duomo is a huge statue of the emperor V. Emanuele, home to hundreds of pigeons.
Inside the Basilica at the crypt are the remains of San Carlos de Borromeo.
The main later of the Basilica.
On the roof of the Duomo, Fr. Teods takes a photo of the people on the square who looked like ants.
The steeples of the Basilica which appear closer as one goes on top of the church's roof.
Teods, Yanie and I posed at the top of the Basilica.
From the top of the Basilica, one looks down to the main square and views the crowd that are there.
